An analysis of the current performance of multi-brand retailers selling Adidas products and an in-depth understanding of consumer preferences for the success of Direct-To-Consumer (DTC) model is, therefore, critical for driving sales growth. The methodology used in the business project used primary and secondary data collection and analysis.

The analysis of the surveyed data and secondary data on consumer purchase revealed important factors that influence consumer preferences in product attributes, attitude towards brands, promotional campaigns and preferred shopping channels and purchase behaviour. The survey showed that the consumers prioritised quality and price over brand name and there was little preference for celebrity endorsements. The customer purchase behaviour on digital platforms also differed according to gender, age group, purchased product and frequency of purchase. Customer segmentation was found to be critical in identifying the most valuable customers and leveraging DTC for an enhanced sales experience for any target customer segment.

Predictive Modelling

Abalone age prediction using Multiple Linear Regression and Decision Tree Regression in R Studio

The estimation of the age of abalone, a consumable snail in many countries, is critical for price fixation in commercial transactions. The age-old process of cutting the inner shell to access the number of rings (an age estimator) is being replaced by new methods like measurement of physical characteristics. Hence, it is important to investigate the association of physical dimensions with the age.

The objective of this research was to predict the age and determine the nature of relationship with variables like length, weight, diameter and height. The research used Multiple Linear Regression Model and Decision Tree Regression Model for age estimation. It was observed that a Linear Regression Model with logarithmic transformation has a higher accuracy. However, the prediction accuracy can be improved by introducing polynomial interactions, greater sample size and multi class classification model.

A research report was prepared. The full report can be accessed here.

New South Wales Crime Statistics Data Visualization

Tableau was used to analyse data based on recorded crime statistics of New South Wales (NSW) and was sourced from Domestic Violence Statistics 2021 of New South Wales Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research.

It incorporates information about different types of offences, monthly record of incidents, premises of occurrence of incidents, time of occurrence, identity and profiles of victims and offenders.

From the visualisations, it was inferred that the number of incidents of certain offences was consistently higher than others across all the months of 2021. In all kinds of offences, alcohol was not involved in majority of the incidents. It was also found that the number of female victims was higher than the male victims for nearly all kinds of offences. The percentage of non-aboriginal victims and percentage of non-aboriginal offenders were the highest. Certain areas were prone to some specific offences; for example, more than 50% of incidents in law enforcement area were linked to breach apprehended violence order. Similarly, residential areas were the most vulnerable to most of the offences.

The research report covers benefits and applications of block chain in food supply chain traceability.

Rapidly changing consumer demand has also propelled a high level of integration of logistics activities to build responsive and agile supply chains. Food supply chain management is more complex, as the time from production to retail shelves is critical for maintaining freshness and nutritive value of the end product. An emerging solution is block -chain technology that can create immutable blocks of transactions at every stage of a supply chain. Future implications include a need for establishing trust-based relationships and collaboration among the supply chain partners to address the issues of financial constraints in installing Internet of Things infrastructure, educating the work force and integrating the existing systems with block chain network.

Research report – Business Analytics

OVER THE TOP ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY (OTT)

Digital revolution has spawned internet based Over the Top platforms (OTT) with applications in the fields of education, health, commerce, financial services and entertainment. Over the Top has transformed the ways of doing business. Anytime, anywhere and accessibility on any technological device has paved way for new ways of understanding and satisfying consumer needs. Consequently, OTT has acquired a major foothold in the Entertainment industry, especially in the video content broadcast.

In this, new kinds of content are expanding customer needs and rapidly transforming the nature of content, content production and packaging. The research report focused on the key challenges faced by the video streaming service providers and the role of business analytics in formulating data driven decisions. Special company specific cases were taken up to explain how unique problem -solving models with data analytics are driven by specific business objectives.

Research Report- Procurement in Supply Chain Management

SUSTAINABLE PUBLIC PROCURMENT

As the governments in many countries play a vital role in sustaining national economies, purchase by public bodies can shape the behaviour of many industries by altering the procurement criteria. Hence, government procurement is seen as the harbinger of the implementation of sustainable development goals.

The purpose of the research report was to explore current and new challenges, conflicting priorities and solutions in devising and implementing sustainable practices by public procurement organizations.

The research aims to investigate factors that motivate or hamper sustainable procurement, regional variation in understanding of sustainability criteria, existing solutions and future challenges in sustainable public procurement practices, especially in the face of global versus local procurement, political and social pressure and an uncertain environment demanding adaptability to change.

To achieve the objective, the following research questions were formulated:

 1. What external and internal organizational factors motivate or hamper the development of system-wide transformation in the supply chain for sustainable practices in public procurement?

2. How do conventional priorities emphasizing cost reduction and quality influence public sector policies in incorporating accountability towards social and environmental factors in procurement?

3. How does comprehension and implementation of sustainable procurement, satisfying economic, social and environmental criteria, vary across countries and the hierarchy of government bodies?

4. To overcome the challenges and impeding factors, what kind of solutions have been implemented by the public authorities and to what extent have they successfully established sustainable procurement systems?

5. How are the new changes, like global supply chain disruption and rapid technological changes, likely to influence sustainable procurement strategies in the future?
